Gender Identity<\/h3>\n<p lang=\"en\">Gender identity is an individual\u2019s internal sense of being female, male, or another identity. This sense usually forms in childhood and, for many, remains very stable throughout life.<\/p>\n<h3 lang=\"en\">2. Transgender<\/h3>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u201cTrans\u201d is an umbrella term for people whose gender identity does not align with the sex recorded at their birth. For example:<\/p>\n<ul lang=\"en\">\n<li>An individual assigned male at birth who identifies as a woman.<\/li>\n<li>The reverse (assigned female at birth identifying as a man).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p lang=\"en\"><strong>Important Note:<\/strong> Being transgender is not considered a disease or illness.<\/p>\n<h3 lang=\"en\">3. Gender Dysphoria<\/h3>\n<p lang=\"en\">This medical term is applied when the gender incongruence causes significant psychological distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. The DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders by the American Psychiatric Association) includes criteria such as:<\/p>\n<ul lang=\"en\">\n<li>A strong desire to belong to the other gender.<\/li>\n<li>Intense discomfort with one\u2019s primary and\/or secondary sex characteristics.<\/li>\n<li>A strong desire for the physical characteristics of the other gender.<\/li>\n<li>A strong desire to be treated as the other gender.<\/li>\n<li>The condition must be persistent (at least six months) and cause significant distress or impairment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p lang=\"en\"><strong>Therefore:<\/strong> Not every transgender person necessarily experiences gender dysphoria. There are various other aspects of gender identity.<\/p>\n<h3 lang=\"en\">4. Why Does This Happen?<\/h3>\n<p lang=\"en\">There is no single, definitive answer, but research suggests several contributing factors:<\/p>\n<ul lang=\"en\">\n<li><strong>Biological Factors:<\/strong> Some studies have shown that certain transgender individuals have specific patterns in the structure or activity of certain brain regions, or that prenatal hormonal influences may play a role.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Developmental and Psychological Factors:<\/strong> Gender identity forms through a complex interaction between biology, psychological development, and the social environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p lang=\"en\"><strong>However, it must be emphasized:<\/strong> There is no strong scientific evidence to suggest that upbringing alone causes someone to be transgender.<\/p>\n<h3 lang=\"en\">5. Treatment and Interventions<\/h3>\n<p lang=\"en\">Approaches vary depending on the individual, and the primary goal is to reduce psychological distress. Interventions may include:<\/p>\n<ul lang=\"en\">\n<li>Supportive psychotherapy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Social Transition:<\/strong> Changing gender roles (name, clothing, pronouns) in social life and identification documents.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hormone Therapy.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Gender-Affirming Surgery<\/strong> (in some cases).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p lang=\"en\">Not all of these steps are necessary or appropriate for every individual.<\/p>\n<h3 lang=\"en\">6. A Key Note in Modern Psychiatry<\/h3>\n<p lang=\"en\">In modern classifications, there is a concerted effort to stop labeling transgender identity itself as a disorder.
