The Real Actors, Foreign Intervention, and the Difficult Path to Freedom and Democracy

Kaveh Rostegar — Freedom and democracy in Iran will most likely not be achieved quickly, completely, or without cost. Rather, the process will likely be delayed, gradual, and imperfect. There is no external savior and no internal hero. The realistic path is slow, exhausting, and costly, yet it is the only path that aligns with the real conditions of Iran. If politics is to lead to freedom, it must be rebuilt from within society itself—not through illusions, nostalgia, or simplistic and emotional prescriptions.
